While the United States is trying to dissuade the Palestinians from making a unilateral bid for UN recognition of an independent state, the authorities in Tel Aviv are, it seems, equally concerned about their neighbour to the east. Hebrew daily Yedioth Ahronoth has cited the same sources about the lack of stability in Amman. |

The continuing war in Libya is endangering five sites on UNESCO's World Heritage list. The body's director general Irina Bokova says the organization plans to send a mission to the country as soon as the conflict there is over. 
The no-fly zone over Libya remains in force as NATO and former rebels back the new leadership's push into the few remaining Gadaffi enclaves. Alliance airstrikes reportedly hit residential buildings in the town of Sirte, but the countries that were quick to condemn attacks by the Colonel's troops back in March, seem to have gone silent. 
Rebel forces in Libya claim they are advancing in Colonel Gaddafi's home town of Sirte - one of the last loyalist bastions. Several thousand opposition fighters, backed by tanks and heavy weapons, have reportedly launched an offensive on the city. Russia says it's time to lift the UN-imposed no fly-zone in Libya, which was introduced to save civilians.
